About HexLume

HexLume is a free, forensic-grade, read-only hex viewer and interactive binary classroom for macOS. It memory-maps terabyte-scale files instantly, tints every byte by class with a mnemonic heatmap, verifies magic-byte signatures the way real security tooling does, and computes live MD5 and SHA-256 fingerprints on every mount — while a built-in sandbox lab lets students flip bits virtually and watch hashes shatter in real time. HexLume is built by ProfWorkBench, LLC and distributed exclusively through the Mac App Store. It is read-only by architecture — the binary contains no write or save routines — and runs 100% offline with zero telemetry: no network permissions are compiled into the app, so files, hashes, and case details never leave the Mac. When analysts need to edit bytes rather than read them, its sister app HexWrite ($9.99/year or a $39.99 lifetime license) adds active patching, header repair, and range operations.
